What Is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is a globally respected academic curriculum for students aged 16–19. With roots in Switzerland and presence in over 150 countries, IB prepares students for college and global citizenship through a unique interdisciplinary approach.
Core Components Include:
- Theory of Knowledge (TOK) – philosophical reflection on how we know what we know
- Extended Essay (EE) – 4,000-word independent research project
- Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) – engagement outside the classroom
In addition, students take six subjects across language, science, math, humanities, and arts.
What Makes IB So Challenging?
1. Interdisciplinary Demands
Students must make connections across disciplines—writing a literary essay one day and analyzing data the next.
2. Continuous Assessments
IB includes:
- Internal Assessments (IAs) in every subject
- Research-intensive Extended Essay
- Reflective TOK essay and oral presentations
3. Time Management Pressure
Most IB students juggle 7–10 hours of study per week, plus CAS hours and core assignments. Balancing everything is a key part of the challenge.
