- Spanish ab initio
IB Spanish ab initio is a Group 2 subject in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). Designed for students with little to no prior experience in Spanish, this beginner-level language acquisition course develops basic communicative competence across speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. The course explores themes including identities, experiences, human ingenuity, social organization, and sharing the planet, while fostering intercultural understanding and effective communication in diverse Spanish-speaking contexts.
The course is available at Standard Level only (SL, 150 teaching hours), with first assessment in 2027.
Assessment consists of Paper 1 (Writing tasks of 70-150 words: SL 1 hour, 25%), Paper 2 (Listening and reading comprehension with unseen texts: SL 1 hour 45 minutes, 50%), and Internal Assessment (Individual oral examination based on visual stimulus with follow-up discussion: SL 7-10 minutes, 25%).
